Great news for Australian fans for a 602nds favourite, Heinrich Haussler.

07-Jul-2010 – Freiburg: Cervélo TestTeam’s Heinrich Haussler, who has thus far held dual citizenship—German and Australian—has decided to give up his German passport and will compete in the future with an Australian license. The administrative process is under way and will soon be concluded.

Haussler grew up in Australia as the son of an Australian mother and a German father. He moved to his father’s home country at the age of 14 to have better possibilities to pursue his sport while attending school, and has since been riding with a German license.

“It was not an easy decision to give up my German citizenship, but I came to a point in my life where I decided to follow my feelings. I had the lucky situation that I was the owner of two passports, but I feel more Australian and therefore I made the final decision to ride in the future for the country where I grew up,” said Haussler. “It was definitely a hard choice. Germany is still really important to me and I have many friends here. I would also like to take the opportunity to say thank you to all the people who have supported me along the way so far, especially the German national cycling federation.”

After changing his license, Haussler plans to stay on in Freiburg (GER), where he has an excellent environment for a professional cyclist.

Following on with our cycling magazine reviews, we will today focus on the Bicycling Australia magazine from down under. Put simply, this magazine is an institution in Australia having first gone to press in 1989 thanks to it’s original founders Phil & Catie Latz. These days Phil can be found looking after the advertisers while Editor Simon Hayes who has recently taken the reigns and puts the finishing touches to this superb publication.

From the time you open this magazine you are deeply entrenched with the amazing array of variety. Bicycling Australia begins lightly with the mailbag, newsroom and top gear sections that are the perfect introduction and in no way an overdose like other magazines. Following this we move into a couple of heavy hitting feature articles that focus on current major cycling trends or a tour from somewhere around the world that no one considers worthy enough of a yarn, an example of where Bicycling Australia has taken this magazine. If you are like me, someone who can’t get enough information on recommended foods, exercises for cycling, what drinks are the best and so on then this is the magazine for you. Bicycling Australia has on board a Coach, Nutritionist and Therapist….they don’t miss a beat. The magazine has the usual “Where to Ride” feature thou they take you places that you would never think of.

Bicycling Australia has plenty of advertisments thou as mentioned in a previous review, advertises are needed to achieve such a fine magazine as this. In fact the advertisements are story in themselves. Bicycling Australia is published every two months and has a cover price of $10.95. They also publish Mountain Biking Australia that we will review at a later date.

I rate Bicycling Australia a 9 out of 10……It’s a cycling bible!
